Overview
Maureen Casey teaches Mathematics in St Margaret’s Academy, Livingston, West Lothian. She has been looking at ways to ensure equal access to mathematics resources for all S1 pupils and after exploring all of the functionality of Glow, decided to create a Learning Space, utilising both the components of a Glow Group and the structure and tracking potential of Glow Learn.

Context
St Margaret’s Academy has an S1 role of 180 pupils. The Mathematics Department has been keen to ensure that all pupils are clear about the learning intentions for the topics they are covering in Maths and to give them equal access to resources. This includes having access from home, either for revision purposes, or to have use of resources used in class for lessons they may have missed.
Maureen Casey decided to create a learning space, to which all Maths Teachers and all S1 pupils will have access. This is currently still in the process of being populated.
The learning space consists of a structured course in Glow Learn, which mirrors the structure of the Department’s S1 Maths Course, and a Glow Group where pupils can use discussion boards to ask questions about topics they need additional support with. The content of both the Glow Learn course and the Glow Group will be built up over time.

In this cookbook, we will look at
• The structure of the Glow Learn Course
• How to create a Course in Glow Learn
• How to upload a resource into Glow Learn
• How to add objectives into a Glow Learn course
• How to enrol pupils and teachers onto a Glow Learn course

Ingredients
What did St Margaret’s Academy need to do to give pupils and staff access to the Learning Space?
• Create a Learning Space in the Glow Portal
• Create a Course in Glow Learn and link it to the Learning Space there.
• Populate the Course with objectives and resources
• Enrol pupils and staff onto the Course

Impact
At this point, since the Glow Learn course is still in the process of being populated, it is not yet possible to comment on its impact. There will hopefully be a follow-up cookbook to this one,  to give an update on how the course and the learning space have been used. Watch this space!
