Overview
Laura Gingell is seconded as the Curriculum for Excellence Development Officer for West Lothian Council (Session 09/10), these responsibilities take up 0.5 of her timetable. For the rest of her week she is a Principal Teacher at Windyknowe Primary School in West Lothian.
Context
On 11th June West Lothian are hosting a Curriculum for Excellence Showcase highlighting events and projects that have happened over the 2009/2010 session. Teachers, Head Teachers, Education Officers and people from
Partnership Agencies have the opportunity to attend this event, which will run over two sessions, one in the morning and one in the afternoon. The aims of the showcase are to enable attendees to discover what’s happening in West Lothian and nationally for CfE and to provide an opportunity to network with colleagues. Participants will be able to visit the West Lothian Education Village to find out about interesting CfE events in various schools and clusters. Laura decided to set up this Glow Group in order to support this showcase and in this cookbook we will investigate how Laura has set up this Glow Group.

Sharing
In this area practitioners can share resources, documents, web links and discuss various aspects of Curriculum for Excellence.
This area is split into three sections. The Awards Section is where schools can record any official awards their school has received this year, for example Eco or Health Awards. A photo of the award can be uploaded into a Picture Library and you can write a short description about the award. The Achievements Section is where people can display achievements within their school, amongst staff or pupils, or achievements in the wider community. Once again, a photo can be uploaded and then a short description added. The Acknowledgements Section is where you can say thank you, good bye or congratulations to someone. This is done using a Discussion Board.
CfE Event 2010
This area is to support the Curriculum for Excellence Showcase. It details instructions as to how practitioners can apply for the event and a map of how to find the location. There is a Glow meet web part, as they will have some live Glow Meets from the event on the day. A Text Editor web part has been used to give details of the workshops people can sign up for. After the event there will also be a Document Store of the resources presenters used.
Forum
The forum is currently being used as an area where people can leave comments and suggestions for the Glow Group. The forum will also be a place where people can evaluate the event after they have been to it. Laptops will be made available on the day to do this.
