Glow Blogs – An Overview
Glow Blogs went live on the 26th June.
Glow Blogs use Wordpress and allow people to post entries to a blog that can then be viewed by others.
A new web part now exists called Glow Blogs and this can be added to a Glow group, an establishment site (e.g. a school site or a local authority site) or a My Glow. It cannot be put on a role based site such as Staff Home.
Whether or not you can view a Glow Blog will depend on how the blog is set up. If it is Private then only the members of the Glow group or establishment can view the blog. If it is set to Glow Only then anyone in Glow can view the blog. If it is set to Public then the blog can be viewed by anyone, whether or not they have a Glow login. The URL will need to be shared so that viewers know where the blog is sited and also only school staff can create a blog that is Public.
To set up a Blog
- Place the web part on the relevant part of Glow (web part is called Glow Blog and will be found in the Virtual Server Gallery)
- Click on Create
- Enter a blog name – this does not have to be unique
- Choose a theme from the available Glow Blog themes
- Enter the URL for the blog, this must be unique within your local authority
- Choose the relevant privacy setting
- Click on OK
This is the blog now created, at this stage you have 2 choices:
If you want to create a simple blog post without worrying about categories, tags etc then in the web part you can enter the Title and body of the blog post and click on Publish. This creates a quick blog post.
If however you want to do a more detailed blog post or perform any administration of your blog then click on the Dashboard link in the web part.
To find out more about using the Dashboard go to the next Glow Blog help article.
