Changing the layout of your blog
Themes are one way of making blogs look different from each other. It is also possible though to bring on new widgets on to your blog to further change how your blog appears to your users.
To change the widgets on your blog:
Go to View Dashboard, on this page click on the Widgets link as shown in the image below:
On this page you will see a list of Available Widgets. From the list of available widgets you can click and drag the widgets to either the Main Sidebar or the Right Sidebar. The location of the Main Sidebar will vary depending on which theme you are in, they could go on the left or the right.
To see the difference this can make to a Glow Blog then compare the following two images:
To turn the first page in to the second page the following widgets were added:
To the main sidebar:
- RSS Widget – set to take a feed from the BBC Education news but it can come from anywhere
- Tag Cloud – will show the tags used in your blogs as a cloud
To the right sidebar:
- Pages – to allow navigation between multiple pages
- Meta – provides links to the dashboard or to various available feeds from the blog
- Recent Comments – you can set the number of comments to show
- Calendar – this will allow calendar navigation to the blog posts
Other widgets are available that were not used in this blog.
